Travelers Assemble! [Jaunt]

All right, Travellers, we have a goal and a way to get to it. There is a portal in a park near the pogemon HQ that leads to a similar landscape to the one we're aiming for. I'm clearing the area and we can use it as a launch point. What do people know about this Nevermore character? Weaknesses, layout of the castle, guard numbers and types - any information is good information guys.

And let me know who's coming to the portal and whether or not you've signed up with the Guardia. There's some good material and supplies there if you need them and it will allow you to move about freely.

[She flies over and settles on his palm easily, smiling up at him.]

It is alright. You are family, after all, and even as little as I do know about you, I believe my grandfather would be honored to have you as family.

Also, if you are ever interested in learning Japanese, I can certainly assist in that. However, that is a conversation for another day. For now, what is it that you would like me to do?

[This is really... really weird. Even the Arusians were bigger than this. How do you shake hands with a fairy? This really cements the sense of utter unreality about this whole situation. At some point he's going to wake up from this dream and he probably won't remember most of it. ....But he kinda hopes he'll remember his tiny, fierce, friendly ancestor.]

I'd love that. But yeah, maybe another time. Okay, the portal is only one way. I was thinking about you scouting and marking a path for people, but I'm not sure...

[He holds up a stick of chalk with a sheepish smile.]

I guess I didn't really realize how small you were.

I know very little about the situation myself, but I have fought many battles against many dangerous and powerful foes. I will lend my swords to putting a stop to Nevermore and his ridiculous minions.

Can Nevermore not be destroyed?

I don't know that it's our call. We're not part of either local government. If they have a way to put him out of commission without killing him, that's the more humane option.

I'd appreciate that. Though it sounds like Nevermore shrugs off swords with no real problem. And if he were to get a hold of you he might be able to duplicate your skills with them. Do you have much experience defending a set position?

Aquapup and I have signed up with it. We're not much for fighting, but I know a little bit of first aid. And as much as I'd like to dig through books for some answers, I don't know there are any in there.

We can be there, though. If he absorbs powers, then if he absorbs someone who's not as useful, maybe it'll take up some of the capacity he has.

[As much as 'saving the worlds' isn't his thing... he's not going to let more people die. He's already killed enough.]

I'm not sure. But she said that this was the only way to make sure that he was stopped.

Hey, there's no reason to go making a sacrifice of yourself. And first aid is very useful. We could really use you as support, either at the fight, or honestly even more importantly, in liminal space to treat the injured who retreat there. Or if you wanted to stay with Malik and Athena, you can bet there will be need for a medic with all the rouge pogemon attacks going on in the human world.

It seems clear that we are meant to stop this invasion from overtaking this world. Merely stopping one with such goals, let alone one with the means to accomplish them, is more than likely only going to delay the inevitable.

If he can die than it is not the only way.

I was a Weapons Master for nearly four hundred years. I will have no trouble doing what is needed of me. But I have also gained some other abilities from a Traveler's dungeon, as well as those native to my race that may be of some use in an overall plan.

Not all creatures can.

But the pogemon government and the human one are already in the process of finding ways to stop this from happening again. If he can be permanently enclosed in a pog, they might even consent to us taking the pog with us, effectively removing him from this world entirely.

It's not that I don't agree that he is deadly and dangerous, and if he succeeds would spur others of the same mindset to pour out of the woodwork. But we're going to stop him. And unnecessary killing is cruel and sets us up to be tyrants to any and all worlds we come across. It's not our job to do the planetary governing for them. It's our job to make sure that this incursion is stopped and the planet is safe to make their own decisions.

I don't know how to get back to liminal space. And I'm not going to stand by while people die. It's an idea, at least - he can't hold an infinite amount of attacks. It would take too much energy. I'm not trying to be some kind of martyr - I've had enough of that. I'm just saying that there has to be a weak point. From a biological standpoint Pogemon don't make sense, but there has to be some limit. And if you fill him up to the limit with junk...

l[He hesitates on the next part, but it has to be said.]

But for that to happen, you have to be willing to make sacrifices for the good of everyone.

[ok, consider him impressed. That's a heck of a lifespan.]

...Well. All right. In that case I can think of a few places we could use your expertise, if you'd be willing. The main entrance to the throne room. The main gates to the castle. The pogemon school where all those waves of pogemon seem to be headed - not sure what they're after, but it's pretty obvious that's where their heaviest firepower is concentrated. Malik could probably use some backup as well. If you have other ideas, I'd be glad to hear them.

Demons need to be in their own plane to be truly killed. A lich stores its power outside of it's own body. If there is a way, we should find it.

As I understand it there are a lot of Travelers with a portal ability that lets them get back to liminal space, and they can open it for people who aren't them, too.

You're right. There has to be a limit. A weak point. But I'm really not comfortable sending you in to get knocked out just to help overload him. We have no idea what his limit is - we might not even have enough investigators to do that. And you can make a difference without something so drastic. Being a medic isn't standing by. It's one of the most important jobs in the field. Guns are made so that literally anyone can pick one up and fire. They might not hit anything, but they can try. Being a medic is specialized. You can't just look at a wound and instantly know what to do with it. That takes study and practice, and without medics battle casualties would skyrocket. As far as I know, we don't have many people, if any, who know any medicine. You'd be the first I've heard of. That means we need you.

We don't have the time for that.

Nevermore was presumed dead twice over. I don't want this world to have to suffer a third return.

Unnecessary? This is a creature that is willing to murder children on the street. I would find death a more suitable punishment and far less cruel than trapping anything anywhere for all eternity, least of all a pog. If you wish a lesson on tyranny, look to Nevermore.

What we need is intelligence. It is difficult to say whether the concentrations of his forces are designed to split our attention and power. The school, being in this world, may simply be a diversion.

Again, not for us to decide. Sorry, but that's not something I'm willing to budge on. I'm no stranger to tyrannical rule, but I am not going to condone a precedent of waltzing into a world, killing someone off because we think it's best, and vanishing again to leave the place in chaos.

I'm hoping to get stealthy and flight-capable volunteers to go do some scouting and report back on that as well as the terrain. I also want to see if we can determine whether or not Nevermore is still even in his castle right now.

... It's not like I know advanced stuff. Just how to bandage something properly and things like that. I have some first-aid pogs that I got given when I signed up with the Guardia thing.

We haven't been in that rift you're talking about, but you should still be careful. You don't know what sort of Pogemon are going to be there.

All the more reason. Simply trapping a creature of this power is almost guaranteeing a return. Even if it is centuries from now.
