So um. Just how much are worlds we go to like the ones we came from?

Like, you know, this is California. I just figured that out. But there aren't any cities in California called Santa Carlita, that I remember. But it's still California, so some things are the same.

Why don't they just use horses? Seems like these machines are stuck to those trails... It seems like it causes more damage to the world around them than they would be good.

We have magic. I know some spells. Not many and they're hard to learn. [ She thinks it over.] Then the wizards of this place are greater than ones back home. Illusions like that take a lot of power. Not many can pull it off.

Because the machines go a lot faster than horses, and don't get tired, or stubborn. I mean, I won't argue that it does damage to the environment, but we didn't know that for a long time, and some people still don't care.

And, like I said, it's not really magic. It's technology. It's just way more advanced than what you're used to, so it looks like magic.

Do people not care about the journey anymore? Because that is the best part of going between places.

Sometimes people care. But sometimes you just need to get to work or school or wherever. I mean, people drive the same way twice every day, sometimes people work like twenty miles from where they live. Or more.

I mean, not my family, we live across the highway from where we work, but we're not really usual, and most of us don't have cars, anyway.
