Magic Questions (cw: truth champagne)

So. Quick questions.

How many Witches or Wizards do we have among us? I suppose Mages count too, but that seems a less formal term to me and 'magic users’ is a bit broad considering some of what some of us can do.

I'm asking because my own magic is… unpredictable and irreversifyible in it's outcomes.

Flying monkeys were an accident.

[Which is probably one of the oddest statements to hear anyone say outside of context.]

Before anyone yells, I'm a trained Witch and well aware of the risk and dangers of magic. I went to college for it.

I don't want to invade anyone's toes when it comes to specializations within a subset of this color magic. I just… don't want to sit back and be rescued all the time like some silly damsel in impractical footwear and a tiara.

...also if anyone could bring me more of that fuzzy water in Liminal I would appreciate it.

Couldn't you learn to defend yourself without using magic? Even if you do learn something more predictable, it won't always be a good idea.

I'm not sure about other kinds of magic, but I would say there are slightly upwards of fifteen color mages among us. Not counting those who only know cantrips, anyway.

Witches, huh. I don't have any magic. Can't say that I'm interested in having any either. But there's a difference between the power and the person, so, as long as the person is resplonsible with their magic and doesn't use it to harm others, then that's ok.

You know I'm... okay, yes, I'm a Wizard now I suppose. Violet color magic and wind elementalism from Bando and a truly ridiculous number of cantrips. If you want to learn any of that I can help out, cantrips are really handy for quick fixes.

And... dunno if you're interested but I've got a good replication of Quadling moons-shine in my rooms, otherwise I can bottle some fuzzywine.

Some magic is... harmful by nature and there's no two ways around it. But sometimes harming can help... like wildfires. There's also a whole thing of combat magic here but I'm not touching that.

Yes, flying monkeys. They didn't exist in Oz until the Wizard conned me in to making them.

And Oz will be blessed to have a proper Wizard instead of that lying charlatan twisting everything around for his own gain.

Oh sweet Ozma, I haven't had that since I spent a snowstorm with a group of Oxen. The cold didn't bother us anyway, though we did bother the family of Squirrels who'd taken shelter nearby.

Combat's different. Combat's survival. You don't take away someone's ability to defend themselves and others. 'M not so worried about that. It's the sucking the life outta things or torturing people. That sorta stuff. That's a problem.

Oz. Actual Oz? .....ok, too much champagne right now but I'll come back to that sometime, cause that sounds pretty cool.

I am a Witch myself, of course. I suspect different worlds may define it differently, though - even different cultures in my world use the word differently.

It's interesting to me that your magic cannot be undone, though. My own speciality is "Endless Magic", the ability to act, undo that action, and redo that action endlessly. It seems your specialty would be the opposite.

Of course, my transient endlessness mostly translates to manipulating Liminal matter here. I've also picked up a smattering of other methods while traveling, like Yellow Magic, Akuryuu Illusion Magic, and S. Tech. Frankly the places we go to are a veritable buffet of mystic knowledge, even in versions of modern Earth, which normally frowns on the supernatural.

Wait, what?! No! No I didn't! You're joking! No, wait, I met HG Wells. You are not joking at all, are you! ...Now I'm not sure if I'm elated or frightened. Both seems like a healthy kind of response, but I never claimed I was healthy. Actually, you don't have any of those dreamless sleep poppies on you, do you?

We don't really have a shortage of magic-users, either. Myself included, I suppose, though the combative aspects are...a work in progress.

Most everything you have probably heard about me is a falsification by the Wizard and his court. He wants... wanted? to be the savior of Oz... and Oz needed someone to blame for things not going well.

I... have some magic training, though I am still just an apprentice to a mage back home. And here... Apparently I can cast, but it really tired me out and I was really scared when I cast my fireball during the jaunt. [ She is embarrassed about that]

It was only a burst of light though, not the usual willow-the-whisp I can conjure up.

Color magic? And.. what's a college? Sorry, my world is not as advanced as it seems most of the others here come from. [ Because she doesn't want someone boasting flying monkeys to think that she is just stupid]

Mm. Ah well. Worth a shot. I don't know a whole lot, honestly. The original movie was pretty old, and there were a bunch of remakes back around the turn of the millenium, but I didn't watch most of them. There was a book, but it was always checked out of the local library.

But I'm always willing to listen if you wanna correct things. That was a pretty forceful denial earlier, so so I'm not really as worried about you trying to. Well. Doesn't matter. Besides, I'm curious. A real live Ozian. Matt's gonna flip.

I... can hope they'll see it that way. If things work out they'll be stuck with me for quite a while.

I think we can at least agree that Witches have a skilled grasp or a form of magic as a definition.

It's... Transformation Magic. Giving Monkeys wings to fly, turning someone in to tin. It's just rarely the same specific outcome twice with the same spell.

Earth is ridiculous anyway, at least from my understanding of it.

Color magic is a type of magic from a jaunt that we can learn, it seems to be divided by archetypes that correspond with colors.

Colleges are schools for more advanced learning.

I was kind of trying to get one of the guards in the jaunt from grabbing me. So, that was slightly the point, I didn't want him dead, but I figured it wouldn't burn him that bad he wasn't in platemail.

So, it's like the place Mages go before they Test back home.

I have three different kinds of magic. Champion magic from Questing Country, blue color magic and Creation magic.

I'd rather deal with Squirrels than munchkins.

You know what... Why not. I think I've been staring at these books long enough for now.

Well, I know I can't use Champion magic. I was an Oracle back there.

Blue does seem a rather useful sort of magic, though I don't think it fits with mine very well.

What's creation magic?

Hm. Transformation...that's something I've touched the edges of, but ultimately I rarely if ever change people or animals. Then again, most people and animals I know are quite stubborn.

And you're quite right. Did you know there are people on Earth who disbelieve magic so hard they can actually become almost immune to it? And then they act as if that in itself is not a magical ability...

Oh, right. Oracles had different abilities.

Creation magic is used more for healing and defense of your allies. It can be used for offense too, but the main focus is there.
