Dragons and Bonds

Hey, it's Jean. Now that things are starting to calm down a bit, I think a small check in is due?

How many of us have bonded with dragons? It's likely getting closer to when we're gonna return to Liminal so just in case, you should be preparing to say goodbye. It's not guaranteed that the dragons will follow us, after all. Not everyone's Pogemon did.

Even if they do return with us, I wonder if they'll disappear from here.

I have... I don't know if Hoshiko will do very well if she gets left behind. She won't let anybody near her unless Matt or I are with her. I'm worried about her.

That's a problem. It would be great if she'd learn to trust someone who's native... just in case. Otherwise, we can only hope she'll follow you and Matt.

If you'd like, we can try having Marco and Hoshiko bond with one another? At least that way she'd have someone here in the worst case scenario...

That might be a good idea. She's so suspicious of other people, after what she's been through that I don't know how well she'll adapt without having some other friends. We'll have to be careful, though. Marco's a hummer?

Yeah, he is. One of the recently hatched ones... so it might be easier for Hoshiko to trust a baby? At least Marco's personality so far has been all sunshine.

She seems pretty okay with hummers - she's fond of Matt's little girl Pidge, anyway. Especially if she's not one of the big ones with the heavy electrical discharge. I don't think Hoshiko had to fight many hummers, just because of her size. She could accidentally eat one if she weren't careful, you know?

Makes sense, yeah.

Hopefully she'll be alright with me, too. I wouldn't want to upset her with my presence.

Don't worry - I've been making sure not to feed her the stuff that makes her breathe fire, and as long as I tell her that you're a friend she'll settle down. She just wants to protect me, it seems like. It's going to take her a long time to heal, both physically and emotionally. [Don't ask him how he knows.]

I think that's an instinct for all of the dragons, wanting to keep us safe. Marco's been making sure I'm resting ever since I collapsed.

It's not the dragon part that bothers me, it's the 'in my mind' part.

...You know, I'm not sure if anyone knows whether pets and the like stay in their original worlds or not. It might depend on whether they bond with investigators or not?

Just as well I talked Maria-chan out of an egg of her own, in any case.

I guess we'll find out if we ever get back to the worlds pets come from. High chance is that once they're in liminal, it's their mind that gets sent over to the jaunt worlds... which means they'd use their own body, but the knowledge they've gained from being with us?

That may be for the best.

There's no guarantee the baby would've latched onto her regardless, and it seems like enough of us stand a chance of returning with a dragon for her to make a lot of new friends. At least these are nicer than the ones in Misericordia.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure she'll be able to play to her hearts' content. These babies are very playful.

We've had plenty of companions follow us back to Liminal before and they're all doing fine. I don't see why dragons being with us would be any different.

[It makes sense. It makes terrible amounts of sense. It also makes her feel sick.

Should she try and push Cynthia away to try and protect her? It's probably worth a try, at least...]

I'm not sure that's the case. Otherwise, every Pogemon, every Spirit Animal and every [one of Souji's cats] pet would have followed, and not just a few.

Though I'm not sure what the reasoning might be.

I haven't heard anyone being followed by an unfriendly companion, though.
