A Few Minutes After Returning to Liminal Space

[Drizzt's flat annoyance filters through slightly despite his attempts to contain it.]

You must be joking.

[He lets out the equivalent of a sigh.]

How does one return to their true form after they have "received" one from the previous Jaunt?

Focus on the feel of your own body - the length of your limbs, your sense of balance, the way you're used to moving. Your mind knows the shape you're meant to be. You just need to block out all the distractions and find your way back.

You're a good friend. I don't think I would be able to be quite so good-natured about it.

And if it makes you feel any better, as simple as the process is at its core, it's not unknown for one of my own people to get tangled up in a shift when we're first learning - and we are shapeshifters by nature, and rarely undergo such drastic changes.

Well, it really isn't something one includes as part of an introduction. It would be too much like bragging.

Essentially. I keep to it as much as I can here in Liminal Space, unless someone seems truly disturbed by dealing with a person not of their own species. We shed enough of our identities on our Jaunts without voluntarily giving them up when there's not a need.

It's common practice for diplomats from my planet to alter their appearance to put others at ease - though usually, they were visiting other worlds, not meeting strangers at a place of convergence such as this.

And I appreciate the warning. I'll certainly keep it in mind if any more of your people join us.

While I'd prefer to avoid that, it's...not unfamiliar ground.

I expect it's an aspect of war common to many realities.

I'm sorry. Hopefully it isn't something we have to deal with again in the near future.
