... Perdonatemi, I have an announcement.

I am not sure anyone else is aware of this, but the payphone by the door can connect to the Trumps. Or at least, when I attempted to call a Trump, it went through. I am not sure if all the Trumps are available for a call or not. I have heard some of them are dead, so they are likely not, at least. In truth, I am not really sure why they are allowing us to speak to them, now. We should all proceed with caution.

Further... if anyone has information on any of the Trumps that appeared this past Jaunt - The Magician, going by ROSE; The Hermit, going by SAGE; and The Devil - please, share it. I am not well versed in the mystical meanings behind the Tarot, only the cards and their numbers. The Magician is one, The Hermit nine, and the Devil fifteen. While I cannot say I know much about The Hermit, I am aware of many aspects of SAGE, as I was a Crypto this past Jaunt. I... I can tell you what little I know about him, if it would help.

... lastly, if anyone was Marked and feels comfortable coming forward with that information, I would be much obliged to hear it. Private or public, it does not concern me; I shall not come forward with that information unless you are comfortable providing it publicly. With so many Trumps amongst us, I cannot believe any of them would leave empty-handed, as it were.

As for what happened, turns out that wasn't the Trumps' first round on the Grid. And apparently ROSE stole us out from under the others' noses to do the thing, so I can't imagine she's very popular with most of her colleagues right now. Lovers and Devil felt the need to trap SAGE on the Grid, why I don't know - you might have more insight to that - and unleashed the Automata corruption agent instead of killing him outright.

I don't think Lovers turned up in person, but Devil was almost certainly in the black sectors. I wasn't in any hurry to find out. And Kanji's covered the basic meanings behind the Trumps, in this case.

But you are not marked, are you? You should not try to intentionally get yourself marked. We do not know what will happen when we are all marked, and it could only lead us faster into ruin.

As for why they would trap the Hermit on the Grid - the Lovers and the Devil were in competition with him. They unleashed the Automata curse to contain him here, because the Lovers did not wish to kill him. But he could not stay in their competition, whatever that competition may be.

Essentially, we added a returning player to this 'game' of theirs.

Frankly, I'd rather it happen because of something I do when I know myself than stumble into it blindly while I'm infiltrating. Just because I fit someone's specifications then doesn't mean I would later. Besides, making a phone call doesn't guarantee an answer, or that anything would come of the conversation.

[Some of this reaction might be down to the fresh sense of Purpose Naoki left the Grid with. But most of it is how he was thinking about the marks from the second Ambrose told him about them - better to know what he's getting into, as much as any of them do.]

...huh. A couple people who were corrupted and derezzed said, when they came back, that the Automata's goal was to keep the Cryptos - and probably also SAGE - trapped on the Grid. Why they thought you guys were so bad, I don't know, and Green Team wasn't exactly sharing its secrets. I wouldn't be surprised if SAGE never intended to leave in the first place.

But now he has, and here we are.

He had to leave the grid for The Magician to win, I believe, who was intending on returning him to the Game. It is not that he wished to leave the Grid - it is that we had to take him off the Grid in order to succeed. I know several of us Cryptos did not want to leave, but if he had left... we likely would have left with him.

It is understandable why we thought they were bad, and why they thought we were bad. I do not believe there was really a "right" side here.

I don't know if there is a way we can make them do it. But we definitely can't make them stop, and I'm not convinced the end result is a war. We don't have enough information yet.

He might've had to leave for her to win this one, true, but I'd meant the first time around. He might well have stayed there on his own, but for whatever reason Lovers and Devil decided to make sure of it.

I definitely agree there's not a clear right side in this. ROSE stle us from under the others' noses to do something she wasn't supposed to do, SAGE upset things somehow, even if it was just by choosing to remove himself from the field, and Lovers and Devil answered that with a forcible corruption agent - not the way to make yourself look good.

What do you believe their game is, then?

I don't know. It might be nothing more than a game, but - we barely know what is going on. There's not much use in panicking over unknowns.

... perhaps you're right, but I... I can't help but feel that we are in a great deal of danger. Orange would be thrilled if he could hear us now.

All we can do about that is try to make sure it happens on our terms as much as possible. [...Which, yes, is going to include some people deliberately contacting Trumps whenever an opportunity arises.]

I can confirm that the Devil was in the darkened sectors. It's... good that you didn't try to confirm it yourself. One of my missions led me there and I nearly didn't get out alive.

I'm not sure I'd call it one piece, but it was a lot better than the alternative. I'd tried to run and they sent their minions after me. ...Still probably better than outright attacking them though. They were scarier than the Gigadaemons.

Those damn things were bad enough, from what I saw. [He wasn't really directly in the fight, though, too busy running evacuations.]

At least they were mindless. The Devil was that mean but smart. They were even scarier looking too. [She shudders, mental overtones of disgust coming through the connection.]
