So, uh. Having poked my head out the door just now...

Doveresque cliff faces shouldn't mean we're heading back to Newport, right? Please tell me we're not heading back to Newport. I don't think any of us want to try to clean up that mess again.

The atmosphere reminds me more of Harrogate - though the summoning circles aren't directly related, at least, despite the colouring. That would be the last gods-damned thing any of us need, and not an entirely unforeseeable consequence of recent fuckery.

Last time they wanted to head back to Harrogate, they were more up-front about it. Also that'd be just as dangerous to them as it is to us, so I don't think they'd risk eldritch bullshit just to make a point.

[She could be wrong, but that'd be one hell of a risky move after things have been destabilised anyway.]

I didn't necessarily mean a return trip. They may have been able to lock the King in Yellow out - eventually - but that doesn't mean he and his aren't sniffing around the threshold, waiting for our hosts to weaken enough that there's a chance to get a foothold here again.

I have no love for the Arcana, but they're far from the worst of our bad options, and I wouldn't put it past them to take the chance to remind us of that when we're already primed to look for signs and symbols.

Fair point. This is the time when they're usually focused on dropping hints about where we're headed next, though, so I'm not sure how much they'd stream-cross the two.

I suspect not...stream-crossing, as you call it, would require more understanding of how humans think than they're capable of. They're muddying the waters with those clouds regardless.

But we'll see what we're in for soon enough, assuming the schedule is the standard one.

What's up with those things, anyway? Didn't really feel like chancing it with weather that can glare at you.

The Arcana are trying very, very hard to convince us that Tower's death has had world-shaking consequences. The clouds are a delivery mechanism for the message, with a side helping of truly disturbing imagery.

Fun for the whole family. [Claudia's definitely being sarcastic about that. Still, it's an improvement on their last idea of an appropriate punishment.]

On the bright side, nothing about the environment is actively trying to kill us. But I do suspect most who can will be keeping to created spaces as much as possible before the Jaunt turns us out again.

I don't blame you. Whatever information might be hidden in this iteration of Liminal Space, it's hardly worth the nightmares.

Not so much, no. Venturing out might actually confirm or deny Newport as our next stop, but I'm not at all convinced it's worth the trouble.

They're a consequence. The Arcana didn't get the names of Tower's killers like they wanted, so they did this, because if they have to punish everyone then at least the killers will be among them and feel some kind of consequence for their actions. It's not worse because they also know they're punishing innocents.

[There's a short pause.]

Although that probably doesn't rule out more punishments for the guilty if they do find them. And as consequences go, it's not very clear.

[Honestly, Cassandra thinks it's all a bit pointless, since it will likely just make the killers that much more defensive about their actions.]

Punishment for small children, depending on when and where you are. If Emperor Emperor didn't come up with it, I sure bet he signed off on it.

Like I said, depends on when and where you are. Common enough that several of us can call it what it is, yes.

I don't think this will have the results they want.

Probably not, but their last idea of a suitable punishment was Moebius. This at least leaves us with our sanity intact and doesn't leave anyone forgetting what happened in the first place.

I don't know if they believe this will help or if they're doing it so they can feel they did something. Either way, it's better than Moebius.

What they believe probably depends on which one you ask.

...Because their archetypes are all different.
