Allergies are Not Fun [Forward Dated]

Hey so uh, I'm out of EpiPens as of the last week or so. There was a lot going on, so I didn't want to make a fuss but... Can anyone either a) take my immune system out of my body or b) make more?

Because I've heard about the Floor and I'm not excited about the possibility of getting acquainted because of a stray peanut.

Yeah, I was born with Only shuttle walls between me and the vacuum of space and the first three months of my life were spent in emergency shuttle transport back to the closest Starbase, so my immune system has always kinda sucked. Nuts, mustard, shellfish, mould, the vaccine for Melvarad mud fleas, to name a few.

Tavern food in Ye Olde England doesn’t exactly come with Allergen information. Thankfully it was only a passing reaction, and a Druid sorted me out before it got bad.

Depending on where you’re at in your liminal skills, I can teach you to not have to breathe anymore, if that helps. Cut the problem off at the source.

That could help, but I haven’t really tried my hand at Liminal stuff yet. Breathing’s most of the problem, but my body would go into shock even if I didn’t have to use air.

How... yeah also how can you just not breathe?

Dunno, it’s a new thing for me, too. I still can if I want to, but I have to consciously choose, and it takes effort. I’ve done a lot to work on my liminal manipulation skills, so maybe I’m becoming more liminal?

If you have other bad reactions though, it probably won’t help much. I could probably duplicate your pen if you still have one, but I don’t think I know enough about them to safely magic you up one from scratch.

It would probably scare Daddy if I tried not breathing though.

Is that the sort of medicine that needs to be matched to you specifically, or is there a standard dose? And does it putrefy or go inert if it was made too long ago?

It’s a standard dose, thankfully. It’s a drug called “Epinephrine”, but it’s basically a shot of Adrenaline that keeps my body going until I can get to a sick bay.

Can you give me a visual of the label? I don't read your language without the network's aid, and I'm not certain how well something like that would translate.

I might be able to come up with an alchemical equivalent, but I'm not sure you'd really want to trust that just on my say-so. Is there anything left of the epinephrine to duplicate?

Yeah, no guarantee something in the alchemical formula wouldn't set something off either.

There should still be traces of the Epinephrine in the pen? Would that do?

EpiPen... That doesn't sound familiar, however... It is a medical treatment for a severe allergic reaction? Do you have an example of it? A list of your allergies would be helpful as well. We may be able to help you build up a resistance or immunity to some of them, depending.

'Epipen' is short for 'Epinephrine Pen', a device that either myself or onlookers can use without any medical knowledge to administer the Adrenaline.

I've got a full list of allergies on my Medical Chip, and you can read them off my Tricorder.

I've got a bit of experience handling Epipens, I knew a few students across my classes that needed one. Should be able to make a spare?

I mean there are definitely options to take out your immune system but do you really feel like being someone's science experiment for how that falls out?

I should be able to make new ones without the medicine. Maybe ones that have multiple shots so you don't run out that fast? I can make a storage pouch for Roy to carry around extras, too.

Multiple shots might work, but they are meant to be disposable. I wouldn't want someone accidentally double dosing me. But I'll happily take a look at whatever you come up with. It'd be handy if there are no Investigators able to make me a new one.

Having Roy carry some around would be good, too. Thanks for offering!

Jim doesn't take long to get to the workshop from the Library. He finds a suitable space for the people coming in and pulls out his empty pen, setting it on the worktop, waiting for people to arrive.

While he's there though, he's going to be concentrating, trying to do this whole 'Liminal Manipulation' thing that people have been telling him about. He's mostly failing, though.

Minako arrives sans any of her usual menagerie this time; he hadn't mentioned animal allergies, but she's not going to take a chance on him discovering a heretofore unknown allergy to, say, Spectral Hounds. "Hey."

Shiro appears between the stacks and beelines for him, placing his palm on the table so he can bend and steal a series of warm, lingering kisses. When he finally breaks off, he presses their foreheads together for a moment to breathe and murmur, "You really know how to make an impression on a guy."

Gil doesn't know that Jim can see through his Mask. So he's completely indifferent to the fact that to the other man, he's five and a half feet of hulking muscle and hooves in near-black fur and stitched together with scar tissue, wrapped up in cargo shorts and a sleeveless hoodie.

"Happy birthday, captain," he says brightly, lobbing a ziplock bag with a few loose epipens in it at Jim's head. If he can't catch an easy toss that's his own fault.

The atmosphere of the workshop still never fails to lift Chloe’s spirits, though at least by now she’s done with calculating the value of everything within reach. She doesn’t know what this guy looks like, exactly, but a guy with a futuristic looking medical device sitting next to him on a table seems like a good bet.

She saunters over, shoots him a grin and a, “Hey, sailor,” then picks up the pen to get a better look at it. Nice.
