And they are no weirder than anyone else, all in one. [Weird has started to be a pretty useless category after how long they've been travelling.]

They just don't like for us to achieve the best results that we could if that comes at the expense of struggling.

Which ...well, they never claimed to have a system of reason and moral that even remotely resembles that of their play pieces. Which is why Laughs doesn't think that they're evil as a whole. More just... well. Very high level spirits, is what they are.
