synopsychic | Attention: Werewolves [A few days into liminal space, after Helena's suggestion]

This is Randolph Lyall... I'm sorry I didn't get this out to everyone sooner, but I know there are a number of us who have kept traits of the werewolves from the previous Jaunt. I've been one for several years now, and particularly in the light of there being a party coming up shortly, here, I wanted to make myself available in case anyone needs help adjusting to their new senses or instincts, or pointers in regards to shapeshifting or hunting. Getting used to this takes time, but I've gone through it, and I'll offer what help and advice I can-- or spare clothing if you need it. These shapeshifts rarely are kind to clothes, and I have the ability to create clothing from nothing, in here.

I also wanted to assure everyone that whether or not these forms come with whatever the full moon drawbacks of their associated bloodline, liminal space is a moon-free zone. Any "moon" in here that shows up isn't real, and hasn't ever affected me, so it oughtn't affect you. Whether you wish to experiment with full moon drawbacks in any of the Jaunt worlds we visit, if anything gets out of hand, all you need is someone to portal you back in here.

And finally, er.

Regarding that party... seeing as I do seem to have expanded my clothing-adjustment skills to other people, these days, if anyone needs help creating a costume, I'm happy to oblige, if I can. Just come to me with an idea, and I'll see what I can do.

I'm fine. As disconcerting as it was, it's not an unpleasant reminder of who she was. I did not choose to follow in her footsteps, but I did respect her.

Oh, good. That's something, then. At least you didn't bring home a wolf form to have to get used to, though, as well-- you'd be amazed just how many new werewolves I've run into, and others I've guessed at by smell, though I haven't actually found them.

Hence, I suppose, the bulk of this message.

Fortunately, no. I believe I would be an utter disaster on four legs. I did, however, retain an alternate form of my own - hopefully there are not too many of us about as well.

Oh? I haven't smelled many vampires, I'll admit, but I also haven't been looking. There seem to be far more of the wolf persuasion. Do you still have a weakness to sunlight? Or I suppose you wouldn't know, there is no sunlight proper in liminal space-- do you still require blood?

[Forgive him, Liara, he's just curious and sometimes gets ahead of himself in wanting to know things.]

I have not felt a strong hunger for blood since returning from Sarmatia, but I have not spent a significant stretch of time in that shape. While I cannot be entirely certain, I don't believe I will gain either the benefits or the drawbacks of vampirism unless I choose to take that form.

...Which is fortunate, I believe. I do not know what effects vampirism would have in conjunction with asari physiology.

Oh dear, yes, that is a good point. I suppose I'm lucky that the variety of human that existed in my first life is close enough to the kind in my second life that there weren't any real complications in the transformation. I wonder if it's the same for some of the other werewolf types-- that they will have to actually take the forms in order to experience things. Not all of them, maybe... one fellow has the powerful senses all the time, now, poor man.

It is possible. Or perhaps it is merely a defensive mechanism, given how common the weaknesses of certain bloodlines are.

[It would be very inconvenient for Investigation if people began bursting into flames or falling comatose in daylight, after all.]

[Yeah, that... would suck. Lyall is just glad that the only times he had to actual deal with sunlight he wasn't himself.]

I'll have to ask around, if we kept any wraithwolves. They have that particular sunlight weakness. Technically, I do, too, but it isn't nearly so pronounced, just uncomfortable.

If it's any comfort, I've seen several worlds on which avoiding the sun was a sound survival mechanism.

[A moment's pause, and then she adds:]

Fortunately, most were worlds I visited in my own universe.

Oh, well, I'm used to it by now. There's much worse things to deal with than itchy skin when the sun's out. I wound up mostly nocturnal once I lost my job, anyhow.

Because of your shapechanging?

[She doesn't need to project her image for the slight frown she wears in the physical world to be detectable in her telepathic voice.]

I took a risk and went public with it. Those of us getting powers and memories and such back, well, there was something of a media campaign against us, and I wanted to show we were perfectly normal people, not out to take over the world or anything ridiculous like that. It may have helped in the long run, but in the short run, I was fired pretty much immediately.

I wish I could say that was surprising, but even in my time, there are several species that are swift to distrust anyone who has abilities outside of the norm.

Humans are notoriously bad with anything outside the norm, I'm afraid, not just abilities. But abilities turn out to be a bit worse, on the whole. It took a lot of time an effort before we were trusted, and in the first city where we started appearing, our reputation never did recover.

Prejudice is not solely a human fault, I'm afraid. I do not think there's any species that doesn't exhibit some measure of it.

Well. We've gotten a bit off topic, I believe. Not that that's a bad thing, but... well, to get back on point, did you still want a costume?
