[A couple days into Liminal Space, but before it changes, Naoki puts out a message. He sounds... tired, but satisfied.]

I've worked out something that will counteract the radiation exposure most of us just got. There's some in the workshop and some in Kanji's place - there should be enough for everyone who was on Gehenna.

Please, guys, take a bottle. I don't care how invincible you think you are, I don't care how much you might think I hate you, I don't care how bad you think it tastes - I did the best I could, but it's still pretty clearly medicine. Radiation is serious business, and none of us deserve to be stuck with the long-term effects if there's a way around it. If it turns out you absolutely cannot get it down for some reason, let me know and I'll try another version.

Well, hey, if there's a time to find out you missed a chance with your crush, it's when you don't have hormones. I can completely understand needing to get your mind on something else, though.

Maybe I'll get lucky and Infiltrate again, right? No easier way to forget about my problems than replace them with someone else's.

Someone else's that may or may not be painfully on the nose to your own, though. It's a mixed bag.

And I guess hoping for someone else in immediate danger of horrible space death is mean, huh?

Mean, unlikely to pan out, and you'd need another dose of this stuff. It's probably better to avoid it.

Ah, well.

At least I've got another friend to talk about it with now, right?

[She smiles just slightly.]

I appreciate it. Somehow I don't think I'd get this far if I was talking to Kanji.

Any time. [He is, after all, more used to interacting with Rise - not that it surprises him that she's closing the distance on her end pretty quickly. It's Rise; that's how she rolls.]

Though you might have better luck with Kanji than you'd think. I mean, at home he did get you through the career crisis.

You know, I guess that's true...I should ask him how that went when I wasn't hurling myself at the guy who was talking me through it...

[Naoki snorts.] Maybe not in so many words, but I can see that making a difference. It's not like you guys never argued or anything - did a lot, in fact, but it was definitely friends arguing.

I'm gonna just guess that's a constant in every universe where we're ourselves.

I haven't heard much to suggest otherwise.
