When: 130 AM, after everyone’s been booked and tossed in the drunk tank.
What: The start of the investigation.

I’ll give it just eight hours, then I’m breaking us out of here.

[If it’s possible for a mental voice to sound as if it’s being pressed through gritted teeth, Eren’s does, a mixture of frustration and determination that comes through loud and clear even disembodied.]

We should do a roll call. Who still remembers who they are? And… is an ace of spades just a guy who’s really good with a shovel?

Anyway, I’ll start. Eren Jaeger, Investigator. Armin Arlert, Infiltrator.

But I don't have any identification. [That's a thing normal people do in jails, right?]

Let's hope they don't. Unless your method of breaking out is subtle? [Not that she thinks a bunch of people going missing is "subtle," but she figures she'd ask anyway.]

[That gets a smirk. A telepathic smirk, accidentally broadcasted.]

If it's that attention-getting, they'll get some of us again, anyway.

[But there's no limit to the number of walls that can be broken, she realizes as she looks at it. Well, whatever, if it happens, it happens.]

I'm Rekka. [A second to recall what Eren said originally.] Do we split into teams?

Sometimes. Mostly we just figure out what jobs need doing and head out.

Sounds familiar. What are the "Infiltrators" and "Investigators" you mentioned? Categories?

Right. Investigators are people who know who they are in a new world; infiltrators forget, and think they've always been there. It doesn't stay the same from one trip to the next.

[rekkaning]

Doesn't that mean infiltrators don't know who we are?

That's right.

[rekkaning]

They can't assist, then. Do you know why it happens? Or is it just everything being random and unpredictable again?

It's how the Trumps give us sources of information. Everything we need to know, one of the Infiltrators knows.

So we're not coming at it blind, huh.... [—Accidentally broadcast. Again. She needs to get better at this telepathy thing. But in the meantime, she has another thought.]

Someone wants somebody else dead. That's all I've figured out.

[And since they're sitting pretty in prison, they can't talk to their infiltrators right now. Not that she knows who any of the infiltrators are.]

Must be someone strong.

No. Someone strong doesn't need to hire other people to do their dirty work. They don't need spies or agents or anything like that. Someone really strong could do it themselves, or work with their allies to get it done...

...Ah, wait. Did you mean the guy they want dead?

Yeah. Probably.

That's what I mean. The murderer—the to-be-murderer—must be an ally. At least, someone the... hirer—boss?—can trust.

[She takes a thinking pause, because, having thought of trust, she wonders what their task is.] We can't exactly go around testing "trust bonds" or whatever. We don't know why we were sent here, right? Could be we need to take care of some demonic presence....

I'll look into that part. [She doesn't have a Madou Lighter or a source of Madou flame on hand, but habits die hard.]

I think I'm best looking into weapons. I know someone else who can help, so it's all taken care of.
