Seeing as it seems that any idiot who whines about it loud enough gets their way, who am I to try to keep morons without a wit of reason from getting their hands on red magic?

You all rely on magic to heal people so why not up your game to using it to kill? You won't even have to train all that hard to use it either! A couple hours and you'll be able to go to to toe with any opponent you meet in any world!

Because that's all you care about, isn't it? How easily you can manage to do something regardless of what the method is. Power is more important than being responsible with it. Who cares so long as you have magic to rely on, right?

I did not chew on him.

I used interface to give him the understanding of how ridiculously dangerous his actions are to everyone around him. He has now experienced being the Red Illuminant.

I could not see any other way to get it through his thick skull that I had very good reason to not want him to have it.

And what if he has no idea what you just did to him? He's never been to the Grid. There's no guarantee anyone else has shown him how that works. You may well have scared the crap out of him for reasons you completely didn't have in mind.

It is my very firm opinion that interface should not be used to deposit information into an organic mind. The process has the potential to be traumatic. I fail to see that your anger, justified or not, is a sufficient reason to risk that.

I doubt there are easy answers, in this case, but this use of such an ability, in such circumstances, doesn't rest easy with me.

If he wants to wield the power of a Red Mage he needs to understand exactly how dangerous he potentially is to everyone around him now.

Given the other options were allow him to potentially murder me or use red magic on him until he understood, I feel I took the least terrible of the choices at hand.

Did he threaten you? Was the situation that dire, and was the danger that immediate?

His prior actions over the matter led me to believe that he would not hesitate to use red magic to get his way about any situation.

He needed to very quickly understand exactly how dangerous that magic is, before a jaunt began and a situation arose where failure to understand that led to a situation like Nova Venezia or worse occuring.

I do not need powers to be dangerous, but I spent many years learning how and when to use them.

Situations like this are exactly why some of the powers we end up with need oversight when others seek them out, and if someone who has it deems it to dangerous to hand out like festival sweets to anyone who wanders up it should be held by everyone.

Some of the abilities we Travelers can learn may need oversight, but you have clearly demonstrated that you have no business providing it. You clearly lack both the discipline and the moral compass required.

I have a moral compass, it is simply not the same as most follow. If you do not like that it is your right to have that opinion. I am not going to throw away my beliefs because they are not popular.
