Could anyone tell where the sound was coming from? It seems like people attuned to the mermaids' Song heard it more clearly, for better or worse. The logical epicenter would be the island, but not necessarily.

No, definitely underwater, and definitely not the island. Nnnnnorthwest? Ish? Maybe?

That's as good an argument as any I've ever heard to get on the island, if nothing else. We can study whatever it is from relative safety if we're not sitting on open water.

Unless it's amphibious, but then we're not exactly relatively safe anywhere.
