A Couple of Questions [Post Greek Jaunt/Carousel Liminal, Day 3]

[Someone was a nerd and has been thinking about this an awful lot before asking his questions. Which might be noticeable.]

My greetings, fellow Travelers. I have two questions to ask of you.

Firstly—what transpired during the last Jaunt? My Overlay was not... privy to most of the details.

Secondly—and perhaps more personally—are there others Marked by Astræa—by Justice? I am curious.

My father would likely prefer that world, but he is also old.

[Being called Drizzit doesn't hurt like it used to, but she's trying. His name is kind of a mouthful.]

Drizzt. [Said a little slower so she can figure it out easier.] Many have difficult with it.

It's like it needs another vowel at the end. The Z and the T sounds don't want to meld together. I'll work on it.

So is your dad the flamboyant one, or the grim one, or somebody not actually here?

[Those being the only other two dark elves she's seen around, and all.]

Well, it is more of a D sound at the end, just to make it more confusing. It's a remarkable thing when someone gets it right the first time.

[Oh no, Drizzt laughs!]

The grim one, but the flamboyant one is his good friend.

I met him a couple times. He's nice, even if yeah, definitely grim. So you all come from the same place, huh?

[She sounds a little wistful. She still misses her family, even if she isn't sure she'd want them to see her like this.]

We all come from the same place, but none of us consider it home, as it is a vile and awful city. Home--that is where family and friends are. I am not certain that I call Synodiporia home, but it is certainly a home away from home, with my father here.

Wow. Uh, I'm sorry where you come from sucks? But I'm glad you have your dad here.

[naturaltwohands]

[A chuckle.]

There is not much one can say to such a thing, I suppose. And yes--it is wonderful to have him. It warms my heart constantly to have him near.

[Drizzt, you shouldn't be purple prosing about your dad.]

[She's going to try not to be jealous. Try being the operative word, here. Best change the subject.]

So you're with Justice. What all did she tell you? We ought to compare notes and stuff.

[naturaltwohands]

[Oops, sorry.]

There is much that she told me. Perhaps the most important thing is that they encompass all of themselves. Justice and Injustice both. She sees every moment that Justice was served, and every moment that Justice was left undone. Every time someone falsely accused was hanged and every time someone was brought the Justice they deserved. She prefers her better half, but is bound by her existence.

[Well, that's discouraging.]

So. If she gets to remake the universe, after bringing back her dead friends and, like, beating up the eldritch things she hates, does that mean the universe is going to be more just or more unjust, if she's both?

Her hope is the universe can be reformed in deference to her better half if she is the victor. It would be up to us to make it so.

[mytearsaremine]

How? How would we determine that?

[naturaltwohands]

I believe if we win in the way of better Justice, then the universe will better exemplify those qualities.

... although I still prefer everything to stay as it is now.

I don't know. It's not really very fair, now. Bad things happen to good people all the time, and good things happen to bad people. I wouldn't mind the world being a little less random like that.

[naturaltwohands]

Indeed, they do. But it is still dealing with the realm of gods when we are mere mortals. There is only so much that we can hope to comprehend.

[mytearsaremine]

That's why we ask them to explain it to us better. So we can understand.

Besides, I'm part eldritch. That's kind of like being part god. That doesn't make me better than you, and it doesn't make them better than us.

[naturaltwohands]

They are trying. We are as incomprehensible to them as they are to us. And she will respond to questions if you truly need answers.

It is not better, simply different. Concepts that exist to them do not exist to us and the reverse. That, and their ability to experience moments independent of themselves. Too many would shatter a mortal mind, I fear.

Then they should spend more time with us and try to learn, maybe. I mean, that's how you learn about somebody, right? You spend time with them and talk with them and stuff.

And I think you and them both underestimate mortal minds. We're stronger than you think.

[naturaltwohands]

I agree; they should spend more time among us.

[A chuckle.]

I am certain I could not experience so many things as they do and hold onto my mind. Many moments simultaneously. It is beyond me.

I'd still rather try than just assume I can't do it.

[Drizzt realizes he won't dissuade her.]

It is something I am not willing to risk; my mind is not built for such things. Perhaps you would have better luck.
