I have a chronic illness. It's neuromuscular, and sends excess electrical signals to my muscles, tightening them up. I used to have a bracelet back home that I'd activate several times a day to relax the muscles and keep them from getting too tight. There were medications, too. But for the last three, four years, I haven't had access to either the medication or the muscular stimulator. The illness is a degenerative one, and will eventually be fatal. I should start the degeneration process soon... The doctors said that it usually starts somewhere between 26 and 28, and I'm 27 now.
I haven't been experiencing any symptoms, and I think I've been all right when it comes to muscle tension. Given how much of a battering I took in that first year away from home, I don't know that I'd notice, though. I've had a lot of broken bones and taken a lot of wounds.
Look. This illness? This is a private matter. It's genetic, not contagious, and I don't want other people worrying about it. Matt knows... That's the only person who needs to. Other than you. I don't know how it's going to affect the surgery, but you needed to know. Please keep it to yourself, okay?
-=his mind is already whirling back and forth between medical knowledge and engineering=-
We should probably run tests, even if you're not noticing anything yet. I mean, I can probably modify the arm they make to manage things after everything is said and done, maybe even act as the stimulator you had?
Thank you. Yeah, you're probably right. I would be grateful if you could make the arm do that, honestly. Especially if it can be automated, but has a manual back up method. If you talk to Matt, I bet he could sneak something into it to facilitate that.
Honestly, I'm more worried about you guys than I am about me. You can't mess me up any more than I already am, I'm pretty sure. But, um. I think... I think it would be helpful for me to be able to have Matt there when I go under and come out of anaesthesia. I've had some bad experiences with it in the past, and having him there might help to mitigate my instinct to lash out.
That won't be a problem. I would have probably asked if there was anyone you wanted around anyway. If he wants, I can show him stuff that could help out with the surgery, so he doesn't have to leave.
I think that would really help, Prompto, thank you. [He really does sound grateful.] Matt really doesn't do well when he feels useless, and then it can be his choice if he goes or stays while the surgery happens. I think it would be better coming from you than from me, though, if that's all right.
Yeah, I bet you do. My overlay, Cenric, he got to hear a little bit about what happened between you and Ignis and I wanted to tell you that if you ever need to talk, or get drunk and upset, or need someone to spar with, or even to hug and cry on, I'm here. You're important, and not just because you're jumping in to help a guy you hardly know. It hurts to be treated like that. So don't bottle it up, all right? Let it out with someone, even if you don't feel like that can be me.
Did everyone hear about that? -=even people who weren't even themselves apparently. awkward. the way he says that sounds almost like he blames himself for what happened=-
Guns aren't really great for sparring and a kinda suck at most other weapons. Getting drunk could be cool? I just.. dunno what I'd even say about anything, you know?
Oh I am... very familiar with that feeling, yeah. That's part of why you get drunk, to be able to say the things in your head that you wouldn't think of or say when you're sober. But that's also why you have a companion you trust with you.
Prompto... You know that wasn't your fault, right? What happened, that was entirely on Ignis' shoulders. You don't deserve to be treated that way.
We have a few different people who are good at chemistry, and at least two who have made medicines before. [Soft and gentle, and just a bit worried.] You shouldn't have to suffer without it. Talk to Helena. Or Alcuin. If you want backup, I'll go with you. But don't force yourself to go without.
Whether or not you need it to survive isn't really the point. It helps you live, and that means it's worth it. Besides, where there's one, there's often more. If you're taking it, and there's, what. Fifty? Sixty people in liminal space? That means statistically there are probably about nine other people who are affected by something similar. And if no one is making the medication, how are they going to get theirs when it runs out? How likely are they to go to someone and ask?
That depends on whether or not your name is Helena Wells, mother of modern science. Also we have several specialized chemists and at least one person with specialized equipment that can analyze and create medicines specific to the individual.
Seriously. Prompto. Don't punish yourself for not being at home. You have every right to a comfortable and happy life.
It's always your choice. [Gently.] Just don't be ashamed if you decide that you would like to have them on hand. And if you need to talk, you know my door and brain are always open. [ Humor, it's humor, he swears. ]
You're a good man, Prompto, with a big heart and an amazing mind, whether you feel like it or not.

-=well, he certainly is, but his oracle powers kind of facilitate that to a ridiculous degree. he feels it all the time=-
We'll take good care of you, bro! Don't worry!
-=sob is he a doctor now? what's going on. how did this happen! no pressure=-

And... yeah. I know. -=technically that's true=-
Re: Private 1 Protect
[This is an important distinction, and a wee bit more life-threatening than Ignis. He'll get back to that in a second.]
Re: Private 1 Protect
-=which.. may have had something to do with his mental break out in the snow but thats neither here nor there at this point=-

Probably about as likely as you are.
