Awkward questions time

Unrelated to... most everything else, but I have a question for you all.

What are parents supposed to be like? Having them, or even being one.

I ask because I do not... actually know from first-hand experience. I never really knew mine and I have no children of my own.

Lotsa reasons. Usually because I did stuff that looked bad.

What kinds of things... "looked bad" to her?

[Because that will possibly make a distinction between this being some kind of actual possession versus simply an abusive mother. Not that a possession wouldn't still be abusive and terrible, but he might be less judgmental of said mother. Slightly. Maybe.

... probably not. At the moment, he has absolutely no sympathy for an abuser.]

Crying. Being loud. Especially if Mama has a headache. Going 'Uu-uu.' Telling the lady on the train to give me candy because it was Halloween.

Bringing Sakutaro with me places instead of leaving him at home. Talking to Sakutaro in front of people. Getting locked out of the house because I lost my key and they had to call Mama's work, but Mama wasn't there, so someone at the work had to find where she went.

[Maria's voice gets smaller for the first time in this conversation.]

That was the worst time. Remember the story I told at the party with the yummy skulls? About how Sakutaro and one of the members of the bunny band were murdered by the Black Witch? That's when that happened. The Black Witch ripped Sakutaro apart and she shattered one of my bunnies.

It's okay now, though. Ange brought Sakutaro back. And then he came to Questing Country and now he's a spirit animal, even though he doesn't have his other form back yet.

But when it first happened that's when I learned how to do the black magic.

[Yeah, none of that sounds like something a possessed person would be angry about. It all sounds like something an abusive person would be worried about. Lyall can't help but be disgusted-- for such small things, too. Even his own Alpha wasn't... that bad... and he hadn't been a bloody child.]

I'm glad Sakutaro is better, but it was wrong of her-- possessed or not-- to harm him. And to harm you. I'm sorry you had to endure that.

[Then, because this is private, and it might help her come to grips with it better, he explains, mental voice gone a little pained despite the muting effect of the network:]

I had someone do that sort of thing to me, once, too. I wasn't as small as you are, but I know it isn't fun.

The Black Witch possessed someone you knew!?!?

[OH NO. MARIA DIDN'T KNOW SHE WAS A TRAVELER WITCH TOO!]

It wasn't possession. It was just anger, and a need to control others so great that he had to resort to violence to do it. He was fully himself when he did it.

[His previous life made excuses: it was the Alpha madness, it was being so close to the full moon, he really had done something to deserve it. The urge is still there, but it is much less than the first Lyall's had been, with a modern teacher's perspective on things-- especially when talking to an abused child.]

Oh. [Maria says this in a small voice.] I'm sorry. It's bad enough when the Black Witch comes. It must be worse when someone acts like her by themself.

It was a while ago.

[Sort of. It feels very fresh, because of the dungeon... but that wasn't real. He just has to remind himself of that. And focus on Maria, who is the important one, here.]

But it does leave scars, and I know you will have them, too. If you ever need anything, to talk about it, or if something reminds you of it and that makes you unhappy, I hope you'll feel comfortable coming to me?
