rubbish lion who can't deal with things yay

[Well, at least there's one person on the network who isn't yelling. Far from it, actually, though he's always in the mood for a fight. But today, Hamilton's mental voice is a little woozy. Tired-sounding, really, and certainly it's not because he hasn't been sleeping the past few days. That would be completely ridiculous.

It's rare that he asks for help. But this month, he might need a little, if only as distraction.]

Okay, folks. Book recommendations, if you got any that I can read around here. Or if there're any about wherever y'all are from. Or, hell, I dunno, I'd appreciate a loan of a quill and some paper. I gotta do something, and there ain't a treasury to mind or a newspaper to run here.

Steph... reads to me. Sometimes. [ Because she can't read herself, obvs. ] Um... Narnia? They are... very good.

[ after a long pause, she answers ]

Magic. And... goodness. [ she pauses uncertainly ] Maybe... God? But it's... good winning. And animals that... talk.

[ All the important things, obviously ]

I could bring you over some Jane Austen novels--I mean, I'm pretty sure you're not so much of a snob to refuse a book just 'cause it's a novel. And I'd really think you'd like them if you gave them the chance. Plus, they were written within a decade or two of your time, which probably helps in terms of the language they were written in and stuff like that.

Jason can back me up on them being awesome. He likes her stuff.

You'd be surprised how many novels were written by ladies, actually. They just usually didn't put their names on them in your day.

Thorne has read me some of Lady Austen's work! They're the most wonderful of novels!

How do you like poetry? I can probably come up with some Alderaanian stuff.

My mom's homeworld was known for its poetry. I know Grandpa's favourites enough that I should be able to get a book together.

What are your thoughts on time travel? I'd have to get Helena to make some copies, but her stuff's good.
claudiometer: thumbs up (I approve this message)

Sweet. I'll see about setting you up with some classics from the Father of Science Fiction.

[...what, it's no worse than Helena would talk herself up.]

Do you have a data tablet of some sort? If you do, I could transfer you the books that I have on mine. There are some nice history texts!

[Sorry. Not yet used to interacting with people from far earlier time periods.]

Oh! That's a shame. Paper really might be the best solution, if you're looking to write, then... I'd think that would be easier for someone to make? I'm still not sure how that works.

[And now she is just going to gently wander away from the original subject.]

You ran a newspaper? That sounds like very interesting work. Was it published on actual paper?

I acquired a few volumes of mystery and poetry in the last Jaunt that I've been working on copying - I'm making an attempt to get a proper library going in my Rooms, in fact.

Are you familiar with the mystery genre at all?
awitchdidit: (just as every cop is a criminal)

I could start you with something easy and dramatic, like a Raymond Chandler then. How does something called The Big Sleep sound for alleviating boredom?
