Now that we've been released, let's speak on where we are and what is going on.

For those of you new to our numbers, this is a Jaunt. We are brought to a particular world and given a task. What that task is...none can say. But it will be more apparent in time, and then we can take action.

[A pause, almost a sigh.]

However, we have to focus on a few things first, such as food and shelter, and finding our way around the city. We'll need to begin our search as soon as possible. Has anyone found anything suitable for us to use in the meantime? We should gather there and regroup.

And if anyone has heard about what was going on in the alleyway when we arrived? Or about the card that was left behind?

I am indeed new. And that is correct, I don't require food or sleep. I am a robot.

A robot? Then...you are made of metal, yes? Forgive me, I have had very limited contact with information on your kind.

Unfortunately, I do not. I am new here, and cannot account for much of what happens here.

You may call me Neria, Daneel. I welcome you to our number, though I am sorry that circumstances are rather confusing for the moment.

What world do you hail from?

I am from Aurora, Neria, though I was first activated on Earth, as that is where my creators were working at that time.

[And perhaps he feels some more kinship to the people of Earth, regardless of where he's from. It's an important detail for him.]

I have never heard of a world called Aurora, though I have not heard of many of the worlds the others have spoken of before. Earth, however, seems to be a common thread among many of the Travelers.

That is interesting. I wonder if there is a reason for that. Certainly multiple realities exist, and certainly multiple versions of Earth must exist, but why so much focus on this one world if that is not the only option?

Perhaps they have a limited number of worlds to choose from but, instead, multiple 'realities' of that same world? Or maybe there is a deeper connection that we are unaware of.

Perhaps so. I admit I'm not qualified to offer any real theories, as I know little about such things. It is not something I have ever been required to have knowledge of. If there is someone here who knows such things, I would like to speak to him or her.

I do not believe any of us are qualified to offer anything beyond ideas. Do not blame yourself for not knowing. But you may ask the others once we return to Liminal Space, as some of them might be able to speak to you at length on the matter.

Remy and Joscelin, at least, surely would know something.

I did not intend to deceive you, but it did not seem like an appropriate time to explain.

Oh, I understand completely, it was a compliment. There's a community of cybernetic AIs back home, you'd fit in with the top of the line.

I was considered an advanced prototype on Aurora. It is good to hear that roboticists made similar advances in other worlds.

That it is. Forgive me if I'm prying but do you have a specialization? The robots of the O.Z. are generally programmed to take on specifics roles.

I was intended for observational purposes originally, a robot who could walk freely in the Cities of Earth where my Spacer creators could not safely go and a more traditional robot would not be welcome. After the murder of one of my creators, Dr. Sarton, my programming was altered to allow me to assist an Earth detective, Elijah Baley, in the investigation, and in fact I worked with him on several instances. My other creator, Dr. Fastolfe, was also curious about the development of the human mind, and saw me as a tool to help him in this.

When I was not privileged to be working with Partner Elijah, I was tasked with overseeing household responsibilities for Dr. Fastolfe, and after his death, the Lady Gladia.

That's some diversification, which'll be helpful to us, especially the blending in and investigating stuff bits. Have you operated - is that the word - independently before this?

In an investigation, do you mean? Not precisely. I have worked without human guidance, in partnership with Friend Giskard, a fellow robot.

[Without human guidance or, if the truth should be known, approval, but that's neither here nor there.]

He was not like myself, but he had a certain insight into human thought I often appreciated.
