Now that we've been released, let's speak on where we are and what is going on.

For those of you new to our numbers, this is a Jaunt. We are brought to a particular world and given a task. What that task is...none can say. But it will be more apparent in time, and then we can take action.

[A pause, almost a sigh.]

However, we have to focus on a few things first, such as food and shelter, and finding our way around the city. We'll need to begin our search as soon as possible. Has anyone found anything suitable for us to use in the meantime? We should gather there and regroup.

And if anyone has heard about what was going on in the alleyway when we arrived? Or about the card that was left behind?

Ambrose and Lila both found out a little. The card's a code, signaling that someone's going to have somebody else killed. So, that should be the investigation, right? We find out who's behind it, and we stop them!

Food and shelter requires money. Money requires acquiring it, which probably means stealing. Whoever has the quickest fingers, volunteer.

Don't churches allow for shelter any longer?

Stealing wouldn't be a poor option, really. But we just need to take care about it.

That's very optimistic thinking there.

"Take care about it" mean "not be shitty at it"? Because I'm pretty sure I already said that.

I would say "be responsible and smart" but, you know, that's another way to put it.

Don't we get any supplies or - anything?

Nope. Get dumped here, figure out the rest on our own. Exciting, isn't it? [his tone is basically the opposite of excitement]

They really don't care if we all die, huh?

Shelter's never too hard, as long as people don't mind living rough for a few days. Food is trickier - strong-arming from somewhere draws police attention, which we don't want. Doesn't anyone have any sort of useful powers for this?

I can get us water fairly easily. Food? Not so much. Don't people give tithes or donations in this world?

Judging by how rough the city looks, I'm going to put my bets on 'no'. Rich get richer, and don't give a fuck about the rest of us. [Just like home. Even if 'home' was a domed city with tech far in advance of this place]

Isn't that how everywhere is?

[How many elves are servants and slaves simply so they can keep their families fed and safe? She sighs ruefully.]

I'm going to try the churches. Someone should have something to spare, even if it's information. And I imagine a few people in the alleys would help too, if given the right incentive.

Maybe there are soup kitchens...

Oh man, I thought I'd be out saving worlds, not being homeless...

You mean you don't want to stay outside the whole time?

Oh, of course I'll be staying outside. I'll find some trees somewhere and set myself up a canopy.

[She can joke too, ok]

Nothing like the wild outdoors for some peace and quiet. Fresh air's good for concentrating and thinking up solutions to problems like these, too.

How can I refuse such a generous offer?

Remy suggested hostels or...flophouses, but we'll need money for that. Squatting's always an option but there's obvious drawbacks. I'm gonna try and find a newspaper, see if we have more options.

As for our little scavenger hunt: the place we were last night's called the Midnight Rose, and of course Remy deals cards there. There was also something about Bensonhurst and Gravesend, and how they're both company towns? And that not mattering if one's not "in the business". Any idea what that means?

I'm going to ask around in the alleys and at the churches. Perhaps someone knows of a place we can stay for the time being.

I...don't know what much of that means, unfortunately. We could ask around, but I imagine we might face some opposition if we snoop too much. We should tread carefully as we go.

Yeah, that's kind of the impression that I got, like there's some kind of rivalry between the towns. Probably best to try and stay neutral.

Speaking of which I told him me and a few friends were in from out of town, from a place called Kansas. That went over okay so if anybody needs a story then... there's one.

I don't require food or sleep. If I can help anyone who does require these things, I will. Perhaps temporary employment might be of help?

I don't know if we'll stay long enough to require employment, though it's possible we might need something like that. Are you new, messere?
