Which winner is which

I know I can't be the only one what's noticed this, but I gotta ask.

Anyone else wonderin' how Hermit an' Death seem t'have both won?

Because of the similarities to our time on the Haunted Isle, I had thought Hermit was one of the Jaunt's participants. It explains the additional symbolism this Liminal.

Hermit's win could have been Beatrice reflecting on herself, perhaps. Was there some other important person retreating or reflecting on themselves or understanding something? There were several secrets being revealed of course, but how and to whom? Do we look at Investigators as well?

I don't see why we couldn't. I mean, Investigators are part of the Jaunt too. Why, did you guys learn anything important?
theflyingone: i'm so pretty (look at)

I thought learning things of importance was the way to make Jaunts successful and not be harmed by the following Liminal anyway.

[ This is the very least he expects of Travelers. One can 'hear' the grumbley lineface in his psychic voice. ]

Where do I begin? Those of us who could sense such things and get close to the Amulet understood why magic was out of balance. Lore and the dig site told us how the Ceremony must be done. I used werewolf form to communicate with a feral Forest Folk to see the state of his mind. He'd forgotten his name and that we had been just conversing. Riddick read Beatrice's mind to find the location of the Amulet pieces she'd hidden. After we stole them, I Interfaced them to learn that three wizards from each race created them to yoke the peoples together. We also saw that Beatrice's overlay did not take kindly to having things stolen, and she attacked the Forest Folk with guns. Then there was a wedding?

[You know she was just teasing you just then, right?]

Well. Maybe something you guys learned was what Hermit wanted. I'm not him, though, so I can't say for certain, but I bet anything that was, like, particularly hidden or esoteric knowledge could have been the thing he wanted.
theflyingone: i'm a hero i swear (upshot)

[ No, no he doesn't. ]

The Amulet influencing that land's magic. The finer points of the Ceremony. The feral Forest Folk's minds. How the Amulet was created. [ he listed the likeliest things. ] I was going to say where Beatrice had hidden her pieces, but that was a mundane sort of secret. Hardly the work of hermits, monks, scholars, and philosophers.

Yeah, those first four sound like the likeliest candidates to me.
