Which winner is which

I know I can't be the only one what's noticed this, but I gotta ask.

Anyone else wonderin' how Hermit an' Death seem t'have both won?

Right. So I guess we'll have to find out if and when it happens again. [Now he's wondering what's the longest that people have been here for, but that's probably something he can find out elsewhere.]

Sounds like they should be at least, if people's spaces were once they were set up.

Likely, yes. I'm given to understand they needed to be forcibly re-established during the last visit to Harrogate, but that wasn't a bad reaction afterward, it was... probably a cautionary measure during. Harrogate's home to some particularly nasty beings that have tried to follow Travelers back into Liminal before, so that was most likely some kind of effort to keep it from happening again.

...Yeah, sounds like a good plan.

I don't think I want to know what sort of thing followed people back. I thought that no one from the jaunt worlds were meant to be able to get into liminal, even travellers when they're stuck as someone from that world?

In theory, yes, that's true.

There have been two break-ins that I know of - that bout of nastiness, and some... less outright malicious but still unpleasant entities that had to pool their resources to get in. And then there was whatever happened in space, but that wasn't a deliberate break-in so much as random portals popping up all over the place. I think that one had something to do with one of the ships we were using.

[Half of that doesn't make a lot of sense to Leo, but that just reminds him that he needs to carry on looking up the history of this place and the places they've been to already.]

On the plus side, that must mean that we're not as isolated as it feels like. If you can break in with enough power, does that mean you can break out with the same?

That, I think, would be considerably more difficult. The forces that broke in were on a similar power scale to our hosts - individually, I don't think the Illuminants could have pulled it off, but all eight of them together were something of a force to be reckoned with, apparently. If you want to know more about that, ask Maria-chan. She might be the most willing of the Travelers involved to talk about it.

The other intrusion was by an eldritch entity, and those just aren't worth tangling with.

I wasn't going to suggest working with anything like that, that would be more trouble than it was worth. It was just a thought, I guess. There seems to be some quite powerful people here as well, though? And people have learnt a lot of new skills since arriving.

That's true. [It doesn't mean they have anything remotely resembling an edge, just yet, or that they ever will outside of creative applications of things.]

It's just a thought, anyway. I feel like there must be a tipping point at some point where we would certainly have the upper hand, even if we don't yet.
