Somewhere around 2/28 to 3/1

I would like everyone to join me in wishing a very happy birthday to Liminal Space's best six-and-a-half year old, Takashi Shirogane!

Happy birthday, dude. If I could make things, I'd make you a cake.
claudiometer: looking up (iiinteresting)

Usually by marking their birthday to either side of the 29th, in years when the date doesn't exist. Chronological age is more important than actual celebrated birthdays for legal purposes.

Oh! That makes more sense.

...But was that really the least confusing way to keep the calendar accurate?

I didn't make the thing, dude, don't ask me. That was a good few hundred years before my time.

[personal profile] bite_the_hand 2018-03-02 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
Wait, so they've had a few hundred years to fix this, and they still haven't figured this out!?
claudiometer: throwing her hands up (not my division)

I'm not even sure how they worked out the planet's typical orbit ends after a quarter of a day most years in the first place.
bite_the_hand: (Huh?)

[personal profile] bite_the_hand 2018-03-02 08:08 am (UTC)(link)
...Good point.

[He pauses to think for a moment.]

I guess I can understand it getting left for so long. It's confusing and annoying but it's nothing life-changing for most people. So all of the really smart people were busy making things like electricity and hot showers, right?
claudiometer: sly grin (sly like a fox)

[personal profile] claudiometer 2018-03-02 08:23 am (UTC)(link)
You're probably not far off.

[She's just. Not gonna open the can of worms that is Daylight Savings.]

[That's all that Eren says to Claudia about Leap Years. But as he talks to Shiro, the topic changes to something else. Something even more confusing and much more than just annoying. So he shortly begins to speak to with her again.]

Claudia, please tell me color coding babies is just something that went weirdly wrong with Shiro's world and not a common thing...?
claudiometer: dubious face (:/)

[personal profile] claudiometer 2018-03-03 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
I wish I could, dude. I really do. It's people trying to make gender be what they want it to be and not acknowledging that it's a fuckload more complicated than what parts you're born with, basically. People are trying to push back, but it's... really, really entrenched.

For added 'fun,' it actually started with the reverse color scheme. I don't know when it changed or why, but when people first started this bullshit it was 'oh, girls are too delicate to wear pink, put that on your baby boys.'
thornsofmalkav: (chinhands)

[personal profile] thornsofmalkav 2018-03-03 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
Originally, girls were blue because it was the color of the Virgin Mary and boys were pink because it's a lighter version of red, which is the color of blood.

I'm also not entirely sure why they swapped though.

[There's a long pause. Then, finally,] All that stuff I said about how stupid that Leap Year thing is? I take it all back. This is the stupidest fucking thing I've heard.

My nurses strapped me to a table, ignored what I was trying to tell them to save Earth, and sedated me when I begged them not to. So. At least as deaf.

...That was a weird opera.

[personal profile] vrepit_no 2018-03-02 11:25 am (UTC)(link)
[....Shit. That went 100% opposite of plan.]

I can't blame them. I sort of crashed an alien ship not fifty miles from the Garrison after being a year vanished into space, neither of you were with me, I'd gained muscle and lost an arm, which was replaced by an incredible alien prosthetic, and I was yelling what probably sounded like gibberish to them. They didn't know what the tech could do and I was borderline hysterical. They didn't know my background while I was gone - how could they? So... yeah. They followed what was probably protocol to keep everybody safe.
thornsofmalkav: (wtf)

[personal profile] thornsofmalkav 2018-03-03 08:40 am (UTC)(link)

[personal profile] vrepit_no 2018-03-03 04:38 pm (UTC)(link)
...It's unfortunate, but not an unreasonable response in context. I'm sure they just wanted to calm me down and make sure I wasn't sick or about to explode. They didn't know what the prosthetic did, and at the time neither did I. They needed information. I can't really blame them.

[It hurts, and it means he can't trust them anymore, and he feels like he can't ever go back, but he can't blame them.]

Hm. You have to do funny things to 'pilot' to make it scan right. 'Astronaut?'
