So we've got a pretty big group of folk here, from all over. Prob'ly got a all different walks of life represented, right?

Do any of those folk happen to be from a doctor-type of walk of life?

Seems normal to me, but I've known about it most my life. Guess if it's brand new, it would seem kinda weird. Promise it ain't bad, though. It's just how we are.

[Of course, actual birth would probably freak him out, but she's not planning on inviting him to that.]

[Not inviting Zed to the actual birth is probably the wisest move for everyone's sakes, really, unless Zoe wants a lot of shouting and pointing.]

I mean, I guess if you're supposed to do it...

...but it's still weird.

[She's not sure she has the patience to be called "weird" at every turn. If he can get over it, they'll be okay, but otherwise she might wind up getting annoyed.]

Good. Cuz I'm guessin' you ain't seen a pregnant woman before. Or a baby?

Not that I can recall, no!

...how long do you keep the baby in there, anyway?

Like to be another four or five months. I'll be gettin' pretty wide around the middle, by the end of it, once the baby really starts growin'.

[He's seen other Shadows grow to building size often enough that he's going to be hard to weird out in this regard, oddly enough.]

Don't know that I could put a number on it.

[She pauses while she tries to come up with a way to explain the appearance of a pregnancy to a child. Even if he's visually all grown up.]

Might look like I'd swallowed a basketball. That make sense to you?

[For all she knows, they don't have hoop-ball games where he comes from.]

[...he's going to have to ask someone exactly what a basketball is, but he gets the idea.]

Good. Cuz I might well need some bondmate support, in all this.

[Actually, she probably won't, or won't admit to it if she did, but she's humoring him a little. Feeling needed might settle him a bit.]

[He definitely seems surprised at that; he is not used to being needed for support, of all things. That's not a really darkness-spreading sort of thing, after all.]
