Second day of liminal [OPEN]

So we've got a pretty big group of folk here, from all over. Prob'ly got a all different walks of life represented, right?

Do any of those folk happen to be from a doctor-type of walk of life?

The technology is referred to as "hyperspace jumping." It is, put in simple terms, the creation of a fourth-dimensional wormhole that allows vast amounts of third-dimensional space to be traversed in an instant.

Oh, we have wormhole travel too, only it doesn't involve creating them. Rather we have the known locations of those wormholes and our ships travel at sub-light speed to reach them. And then, ah, go through them in a highly scientific way that I've never been able to understand well besides the fact that Necklin rods are very, very important and that jump pilots need to neurally interface with their ships.

So similar, but not the same.

Navigation through hyperspace typically involves many small jumps, as this is safer and easier to calculate. I have never heard of a neural interface, but I could see this being useful. Do jump pilots have some degree of telepathic ability?

i love this goddamn canon (also some spoilers for ethan of athos)

Not that I know of, but then again I doubt we have any telepaths in my world.

[In this, Byerly is wrong, although there really isn't any reason he should know of Terrence Cee or how in another generation or so there's going to be an entire gynophobic planet of telepathic men that luckily have no interest at all in the rest of the galaxy, given how it's full of women.]

On the other hand, if they had low-level psychic abilities, that would explain why some people are more likely to be good jump pilots than others.

It's possible. Though I'm sure most educated men of my own reality would dismiss telepathy as impossible, I know this is not the case. I'm not certain how widespread it is, but from what I know of it, it would be useful for that sort of integration.
