[As far as tone is distinguishable on the network, that's muttered, and very, very frustrated - but anyone who remembers Misericordia probably understands. When Naoki resumes, it's at a much more normal volume and tone.]

Anyway, we might as well get a check-in going. This is Naoki. We are definitely not in Harrogate, unless something went very, very wrong with Earth's climate since the last time.

If it turns out we're missing a substantial chunk of people, I can try reaching out to the others later this week.

Wait, were you having democratic elections for a monarchy? Can you even do that?

[professorwolf]

It never had been a monarchy, really. "Prince" was just a title, it didn't connote being part of any royal family. It's hard to have a royal family when one is undead, after all, and live for centuries, and don't actually have children in the traditional way.

In the past, however, the previous prince had always named an heir. The vampire everyone had presumed to be his heir, however, was the one who killed him-- at his request, which kept everyone else from destroying her. But it did muddy up the waters enough for a couple of others to stick our noses in and demand an election.

... okay, but why didn't he just commit normal suicide? Or was it too hard to do when you're a vampire, so you need to get outside help?

I honestly don't know. I was a werewolf in that Jaunt, and not exactly in the prince's inner circle. I did end up sort of co-ruling with the prince's assumed heir, though, after one of the other candidates was murdered and Zed rigged the election results and we had to throw out the whole vote anyway.

Also, wow, I didn't know you were a werewolf prince, sensei.

I'm not. He was, but only because it seemed the only way to avoid a re-run election, and honestly, the two of them were a decent foil for each other. He had lots of new and rather radical ideas about socialism and equality for werewolves and mortals both, and while she was much more traditional, she also did care about the people. They probably would be all right at it.

Blame Zed more for running away with half the country's money, than for rigging the results.

[She should know. She ended up dating him that one Jaunt... and she kind of wishes she could forget about it.]
