Drizzt Asks Important Questions

This is Drizzt Do'Urden, and I have a simple question: what does one do in Liminal Space beside read books? It is too small to have anything left to explore, unless one tries to scale the wall.

[He does not sound frustrated, but in a good general mood. Drizzt seems more amused about it than anything, and he figures someone will have a good answer for him.]

I ask because I am afraid boredom begins to strike at my heart with my blades still for so long, and I need something more to combat it properly. Perhaps one of you has advice?

"Yeah." Jules shudders. "Pretty sure I'm lucky I didn't get killed and have my organs harvested then and there."

[naturaltwohands]

Drizzt shudders lightly at the thought. "I am glad that you did not, even if you would have been returned to life; such a violation would have still been terrible."

[failgoyle]

"Yeah." Jules shudders. "I guess I'm lucky I must have been more useful alive."

[naturaltwohands]

Or more amusing alive, but Drizzt doesn't say that out loud, as he truly does enjoy being around Jules. "Regardless of the reason, what do you intend to do with the thing now? You have two working arms already."

[failgoyle]

"I dunno," Jules says cheerfully, "I'm messing with it just to mess with it. You never know when you'll need a remote-control arm!"

[naturaltwohands]

"Perhaps you can create a sling and simply have a third arm?" Drizzt asks, half-jokingly. "Although I am not certain how to make it work like your other two."

[failgoyle]

"With a few electrodes in the right places, maybe I could rig something..." Jules trails off thoughtfully.

Drizzt, what have you done?

Drizzt doesn't know what electrodes are, but he can figure that out later. "If you need some sort of harness, I am good with ropes and knots. I've been on a sailing ship for six years."

What else?

SCIENCE!

"You never know, I might need to take you up on that!" He has no idea what he's doing and how, so options always work!

[naturaltwohands]

"Where would you even wish for it to be attached to your body?" Drizzt asks, glancing at Jules. "I've seen extra arms attached near the ribcage before."

[failgoyle]

"You know," Jules says, "I hadn't even gotten that far, I was just trying to see if I could get it to run well first."

[naturaltwohands]

"Ah!" Drizzt pauses, then laughs. "You do not want to attach a broken arm to yourself?"

[failgoyle]

Jules laughs. "Nah, been there, done that. I'll have to try it out when it works just for something different."

[naturaltwohands]

Drizzt just continues grinning wide. "I'm sure you will find use for a third arm. But how will you make it move?"

[failgoyle]

"Oh, that's easy," Jules says, "I'll just get a battery!" Yep, simple, super simple. Jules pauses. "...think of it like a magic power source."

[naturaltwohands]

"Ah," Drizzt had been about ready to ask. "... I wish to ask more questions, but I realize I must be making myself a nuisance."

[failgoyle]

"Nah, you're fine." Jules waves the thought off with the mechanical arm. "People usually aren't interested in what I'm doing, anyway."

[naturaltwohands]

The waving motion with the arm makes him snicker, and he's going to scoot closer to where he's sitting now to get a better look at things. Drizzt's father might have saved him from becoming a wizard, but he could not save Drizzt from becoming a nerd. Jules is making that nerdy part of him flood out of him.

"Then I am not most people," Drizzt comments with a smirk. "I'm very interested."

[failgoyle]

Most people don't really care when Jules gets excited about this sort of thing, so this is nice for him. "Hey, man, stick with me, and I can get you up to speed on all sorts of science and stuff they don't have where you're from."

[naturaltwohands]

Drizzt is delighted by that. "I would love to learn more."

He actually peeks at Jules screen then but has to squint at the brightness. Only, he stops after a moment and grins, pulling out the sunglasses that Daneel made for him and putting them over his eyes. That is far better, and—

A hesitation, and then Drizzt leans his head right, then leans it left, and gasps. "The screen changes brightness if I move my head! It even goes entirely dark!"

Guess who just discovered polarized lenses?

[failgoyle]

Jules looks back at Drizzt. "Oh, yeah, those are probably polarized. With a screen like this, it gets weird. Filters different wavelengths of light, I think."

[naturaltwohands]

"Oh," Drizzt blinks a few times in confusion before he lets out a chuckle. "I am afraid you lost me once more."

[failgoyle]

"Light is energy that travels in waves, pretty much." Jules attempts to illustrate this with his hands.

This is not something that can be easily illustrated with one's hands.

[naturaltwohands]

Drizzt stares at his hand in confusion. "Like the water in the ocean? But whenever I have been able to observe the passage of light, through holes in clouds or other things, it goes straight and true." He pauses for a moment in thought. "Except through water, in which it seems to bend."

[failgoyle]

"That's why it bends! Because the water bends the waves," Jules says sagely. "Some stuff bends it, other stuff lets it pass through just fine."
