[As far as tone is distinguishable on the network, that's muttered, and very, very frustrated - but anyone who remembers Misericordia probably understands. When Naoki resumes, it's at a much more normal volume and tone.]

Anyway, we might as well get a check-in going. This is Naoki. We are definitely not in Harrogate, unless something went very, very wrong with Earth's climate since the last time.

If it turns out we're missing a substantial chunk of people, I can try reaching out to the others later this week.

The last time one of these things involved dragons, it was the mother impersonating people while hiding her eggs all over town, and then they all hatched at once.

Those particular dragons lay their eggs in the hundreds. Hundreds of probably-panicked baby dragons meant half the town was on fire.

It's probably going to take a while for Kanji and I to get it through our heads that these aren't the same dragons.

Oh, that wasn't even the jaunt. It was the side thing.

As for the jaunt, vampires were involved.

Not exactly. I heard something about an election, not high-school drama.

[And nothing about any sparkling whatsoever.]

It could be both. They could have been running for the class rep at vampire school.

I think it was a governmental election, not a school one.

How do we know that the government of the vampires isn't just basically a student council? I've seen some really powerful ones in anime.

It didn't sound like these guys were spending their extremely long lives going to high school over and over again.

I dunno. I could see vampires doing that. Not good or interesting vampires. But vampires.

Why would you want to?

[Naoki may be the most academically-inclined of the original rescue team, but that doesn't mean he finds the thought of eternal high school all that appealing.]

There was an utterly terrible book like that. Terrible writing, terrible story line, kinda creepy, kinda rape-y.

I think the vampires sparkled. And played baseball.

Usually they were fighting with the werewolves though, not teaming up with them.

Oh, no, we were most certainly not electing a student council. Though I imagine occasionally even ancient immortals might act like children now and then.

No, it was an election because the previous prince had died without naming an heir. We were all quite excited about it, as it was our first for something so important. There were a lot of changes proposed.

[Guess who was one of the people being elected, Chie. Lyall actually sounds a bit fond, thinking back to that Jaunt.]

At least not the ones I remember. I only ever served one family and knew what they did.

So some of the other families could have had vampires in high school.
