Drizzt Asks Important Questions

This is Drizzt Do'Urden, and I have a simple question: what does one do in Liminal Space beside read books? It is too small to have anything left to explore, unless one tries to scale the wall.

[He does not sound frustrated, but in a good general mood. Drizzt seems more amused about it than anything, and he figures someone will have a good answer for him.]

I ask because I am afraid boredom begins to strike at my heart with my blades still for so long, and I need something more to combat it properly. Perhaps one of you has advice?

Being cautious certainly does have its benefits, staying alive being the foremost of them, as you've said.

[Drizzt is completely confused.]

It is the name of a terrible band of minstrels.

[Confused, but also hoping for an amusing story.]

[What happens next is Jules's warbling, slightly-out-of-tune rendition of a few lines of "Stayin' Alive," sensory livestreamed for everyone's...enjoyment isn't the right word, but sensory livestreaming of the audio of him singing is a thing. It's not like he knows all the words, but he's got the tune down close enough.]

[By the end, Drizzt is chuckling heavily.]

I have heard of much worse. [A beat.] It does sound a bit, ah, intriguing. I've never heard anything quite like it!

[Things his player just learned about Drizzt: he might like the Bee Gees.]

...dude, we've got to get you some decent CDs.

CDs?

Kind of old ways to store recordings of music.

Do you mean the notes on the sheet minstrels use for instruction? I do not play any instruments, nor can I read the notes. It would not be useful to me.

[Drizzt, welcome to the modern world. But what Jules said doesn't quite work with that description. Aha! Drizzt sounds brighter, suddenly certain that he has figured it out.]

Or do you mean something similar to the "movies" I have heard about?

Yes! Something like that, only with no video unless we find you a concert DVD!

It's seriously just a recording, like you play back what other people have already played.

... I assume that is similar to a CD? [SO MANY CONFUSING TERMS.]

A recording... Play back? [NO SERIOUSLY.] I suppose the phrase makes sense.

Yeah, only DVDs have video in addition to the audio.

[There's a pause.]

Yeah, that's what a recording is, it's a...a...thing you can play back.

[He is maybe not the best candidate for this discussion.]

[naturaltwohands]

[Drizzt just chuckles helplessly after several moments in silence. Yes. In his head. It's a bit hard to do but he's getting better at it.]

... Perhaps it will be easier if you show me in person, since I am already heading that way.

[failgoyle]

I don't know what I can do without a player, but I'll give it a try!

[He will be waiting...as just a gangly, unremarkable-looking human.]

... A player?

[This just gets increasingly complicated. Also, surely enough, Drizzt spots him in the distance and raises his hand in greeting. Guenhwyvar is at his side, as calm as ever.]

You need a thing to make the CD or the DVD play, pretty much.

[Jules sees them as well, and he waves.]

[Drizzt waits until he has gotten within speaking distance before he replies. It only took him a month to get here.]

That sounds needlessly complicated.

[failgoyle]

It's not that complicated, once you get the hang of it.

[Jules gets to his feet and waves. He's still tossing the cube up and down in one hand.]

You want this, at least?

[naturaltwohands]

I suppose it wouldn't be.

[Drizzt nods and smiles at the question.]

Of course. How else would I defeat boredom except with a cube?

[Helena cuts in through his singing.]

Is that the same band that did 'I Will Survive', darling? If so, you're frightfully off-key.

No, no. I think they were different, Mom always had two different records...she was really into that sort of thing.
